USA Team Handball is pleased to announce that both the Women’s and Men’s National Beach Handball teams went undefeated at the North American and Caribbean Beach Handball Championships in Trinidad and Tobago last month. Both teams wrote history at the inaugural competition, earning the Gold Medal. As first place finishers, both USA teams punched their tickets to the IHF Beach Handball World Championships in 2020 and the World Beach Games this October.
The 2019 World Beach Games, officially known as the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019, is an inaugural international beach multi-sport event organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees. All of the events in this edition are non-Olympic events different from the Summer Olympic program and are gender equal. More than 100 nations are expected to qualify for the Games.
USA Team Handball CEO, Barry Siff said, “It is an incredible honor to have our Women and Men’s National Beach Handball teams participating in the inaugural World Beach Games. They each proved their worthiness in Trinidad & Tobago, and will represent our North America and Caribbean Handball Confederation very well at the Games. Beach Handball is such an exciting and athletic event; hopefully these Games will be able to showcase that on a major stage to the world.”
The Women’s team coaching staff will include head coach Juliano de Oliveira, and assistant coach/ Team Leader Lisa Dunn. The men’s coaching staff will include head coach Michael Hinson, and assistant coach Jamil Abdalla. Alternate coaches have been selected, Ford Dyke for the men’s side, and Michelle Mensing for the women.
